Indian catholic youth movement (ICYM)

let us learn about ICYM

The history of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in the Mangalore Diocese is a story of growth, transformation, and unwavering dedication to youth.

The movement was founded on May 4, 1947, in the Mangalore Diocese. Initially known as the Catholic Youth Movement (CYM), it focused on spiritual growth, social engagement, and leadership development among young Catholics. Over the years, CYM expanded its reach across the diocese, establishing units in various parishes. The movement played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of countless young people, fostering a sense of community and empowering them to become active agents of change.

The dreams and aspirations of thousands of youth, animators, directors, and bishops became a reality when the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) approved ICYM as a national youth movement on September 14, 1999. This recognition marked a significant milestone, solidifying ICYM's position as a leading youth organization in India.

Today, ICYM Mangalore Diocese is a vibrant and influential organization with a strong presence in 12 deaneries and 124 parishes. It continues to serve as a driving force in the lives of young Catholics, offering a platform for spiritual growth, social action, and leadership development.

Currently, the ICYM Central Council of the Mangalore Diocese is led by Director Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, President Mr. Winston Sequeira, and Secretary Ms. Ashlin D’Souza, along with their dedicated executive team and central council members.
